A building with an eerie rose-colored aura, my proposal for the new Beinecke Library of Rare Books and Manuscripts turns the library into a grotesque form. A space of old knowledge and secret societies, the animation was inspired by old horror and noir films like James Whale’s Frankenstein and Alfred Hitchcock’s Rebecca.
Similar to the way Beinecke relates to and blends into its context, this proposal projects an eerie rose-colored aura onto its surroundings
Composed of forms inspired by the plan of the Scottish Parliament Building by Enric Miralles, and the section of the Phare Tower by Morphosis, the project seeks to invert the scheme of the original library. Book storage now lines the ceiling of the main interior and the larvae like forms on the exterior. More a museum than a library, a series of viewing platforms replace space previously intended for meeting and studying.
