Part of ‘Souvenirs of a Forgotten Past’ a traveling exhibition of natural stone objects produced by Solid Nature & Luminare. The exhibition, which explores the cultural identities of 9 designers and artists, is SolidNature’s first project focused on the manufacturing of small scale art objects
“Souvenir à nous: Mother & Child” is a sculptural piece made of marble and travertine. An abstraction of Senegalese mother and child totems, this piece, inspired by personal history, holds the memories or souvenirs of navigating different cultural landscapes represented here by three different stones. A play on the Deleuzian definition of a face, the profiles face each other and change in the round, lengthening, shortening, disappearing, and reappearing to become markers of the shifting relationship between a mother and her child, memories.
